OPPO announced the successor to the N1 last week in Singapore and the smartphone is the world’s first with an automated swivel camera. The OPPO N3 is indeed an incredible phone with clear emphasis on its lineage that’s rooted in photography.
The N3 has an industrial-grade aluminium alloy frame and plastic body. The fame extends out from all sides and gives the phone its polished look. The Skyline Notification that was first featured in the Find 7 is also here and has been bumped up to 2.0, which only means that its visible on both front and back sides of the device.

For the first time on an OPPO device, a fingerprint scanner makes an appearance. This allows for access to specific apps or features and up to 5 different prints of the user to be added. Users can also set up individualised Guest modes for other users to access the device. Apart from security, the sensor area can also be used for navigation. It responds to up or down gestures at the back and this will translate to scrolling on the front display.

The highlight of the N3 is the auto-swivelling camera at the top of the phone. OPPO has managed to squeeze in a tiny Schneider Electric developed stepper motor which by itself a world’s first and is one of a kind. The camera assembly is capable of executing a 206-degree rotation and it can be controlled using a finger via an up or down gesture on the display. The camera can even execute a panoramic shot by rotating automatically while the phone remains static. OPPO has also enlisted the help of the award winning Schneider Optics team for the lenses.
What’s also interesting is that that the N3 allows for focus adjustment after shooting the image. Another point to note is the 64 MP high definition photo capture ability through the use of oversampling. The camera is even capable of 4K video shooting at 30 fps and a slow motion capture of 120 fps at 720p.
Here are the specifications for the N3:

The PI (Pure Image) 2.0 plus engine allows for faster image capture and smart scene recognition. There’s also the Tracking Focus courtesy of Snapdragon’s Touch-to-track feature; Just tap on a moving object and the phone will start tracking it as long as it’s within the camera’s point of view. N3 also comes with options for video stitching, face recognition, photo effects and photo captions.

The VOOC rapid charging technology is on the N3 as well but OPPO has now made the charger smaller and the cable detachable from the main unit. 30 minutes on the VOOC mini Rapid Charger will restore an almost depleted N3 up to 75% of its capacity, and a 5 minute charge will allow for a 2 hour phone call.

The O-Click button from the original N1 has also been revamped and offers a lot more features. Users can now take photos, control the rotation of the camera, play music as well as locate the phone and take calls.
OPPO has announced that the N3 will hit Australia, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and China right after launch but we’ve yet to see it on the Malaysian or Singaporean localised sites. In fact, it’s only available on the international site and on OPPO China’s site with a price tag of CN¥ 3,999 (~RM 2,173).
