Like we’ve reported two weeks ago, today is the day Oppo Electronics Malaysia launches its flagship duo, the Find 7 and Find 7a smartphones. These two devices were first announced at the end of March 2014 in Beijing, and in a few weeks time, we will be able to purchase one here in Malaysia.

Let us dispense with the pleasantries and jump right in. Here are the specifications of both devices:

Find 7 Find 7a
2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU (MSM8974AC) and Adreno 330 GPU 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU (MSM8974AB) and Adreno 330 GPU
Runs ColorOS which is based on Android Jelly Bean 4.3
5.5”, 2560 x 1440 Quad HD screen with a ridiculous pixel density of 538 ppi 5.5”, 1920 x 1080 Full HD screen with a pixel density of 403 ppi
3 GB RAM , 32 GB internal memory and accepts microSD card up to 128 GB 2 GB RAM , 16 GB internal memory and accepts microSD card up to 128 GB
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n dual band with Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, NFC and USB OTG.
Has GPRS, EDGE, HSPA+ and 4G LTE
13 MP auto- focusing rear camera with dual LED flash and 5 MP front camera with 80 degree wide angle sensor. Both cameras have apertures rated at f/2.0. Another notable feature is the ability to take 4K videos at 30 fps and 720p slow motion video at 120 fps, which I find to be quite impressive.
3000 mAh, removable, Li-Po battery. 2800 mAh, removable, Li-Po battery.
Has a dimension of 152.6 x 75 x 9.2 mm but the Find 7 weighs 171 g while the Find 7a comes in at 170 g
Come in White and Midnight (black)

The differences between the two devices are basically just the processor speed, display resolution, memory, internal storage, and battery capacity. That’s it. Even if you were to get ‘lower-end’ phone — the Find 7a — it could easily trump other flagships of 2013 with its MSM8974AB SoC. The flagship Find 7 comes with MSM8974AC that is also found on the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8.

But the display alone is the Find 7’s killer feature, for its 5.5-inch panel has a 2560 x 1440 ‘Quad HD’ resolution at a whopping 538PPI pixel density. If this phone with its display and 3GB RAM is not an ‘overkill killer’, I don’t know what is.

They each have a second generation stacked sensor IMX214, 13-megapixel sensor, f/2.0 aperture, and the new Pure Image 2.0, which has this Super Zoom mode that uses its Super Screen 2.0 oversampling technology (stay with me), allowing the phone to take 10 shots in quick succession, and stitches the best four photos from the lot to form a 50MP image. Both models will have this feature.

Both will have Gorilla Glass 3 panel, MaxxAudio, and the oscillating blue notification light like the hood lights on KITT of Knight Rider. They will also feature the VOOC fast-charging tech that could juice up the phone from 0% to 75% in just 30 minutes.

They will also both ship with ColorOS 1.2 that’s based on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Pre-orders of the Find 7a is still ongoing and will end four days before it ships in Malaysia on May 15th, 2014 (next week), for the price of RM1,598. Oppo Find 7, on the other hand, will be available in nationwide by the end of June; that’s like two months away. And the price of the Find 7? It is RM1,998.

Update (May 7th, 2014, 10:20pm): Oppo is ahead of its schedule and said that the Find 7a is actually already on sale beginning today. The Find 7 though, you’ll still have to wait for another two months.
