Oppo Neo

Oppo has all its base covered with the Neo, the final device that was launched yesterday alongside the N1, Find 5 Mini, and the R1. Targeted towards the low-end market, it has just enough hardware requirements to support Android it’s running on. Let’s see what’s in store.

Oppo Neo has a 4.5-inch display, which is relatively large for an entry-level, but skimps on the IPS display resolution to only have 854 x 480 pixels (around 207PPI). The unnamed processor has a dual-core 1.3GHz clock speed, and the random access memory is only at 512MB.

While the 4GB internal storage is too small, it does take microSD cards of up to 32GB in size. Speaking of cards, it is also a dual SIM smartphone, like the R1. Powering the camera is a 5MP lens with a 2MP front-facing equivalent.

Color OS that made its debut on the N1 is also found here, layered on top of Android 4.2.1. Color OS here has the same ‘Quick Reach’ feature that lets you draw patterns or double-tab on the screen, to launch apps or other actions.

The device is juiced by a 1,900mAh battery in its 132 x 65.8 x 9.2 mm chassis, that weighs 130 grams.

Oppo Neo will be available in the Malaysian market by the end of this month, for RM598.

With the launch of four smartphones at one go, Oppo CEO William Fang said that he and the company “hopes to become good friends” with mobile users in Malaysia, knowing that we now have over 42 million mobile phones in the country; that’s a 143% penetration rate. The company is already on schedule to open its Low Yat Plaza store by the end of this month, with more to follow.
